It all started as a little surf shop in 1980 in Newport Beach, California. It wasn't called Pacific Sunwear then. It wasn't even all that different from all the other shops carrying surfboards and wax, except for one thing, the founders had a better idea. You see, during Southern California's wet, cool winters, the beaches get empty and the surf store business goes dry. Where does everyone go? To the mall of course. That was the idea: to be the first surf shop to move into California's popular mall locations.

The Skateboard Mag seeks to maintain the independent nature and integrity of the skateboard culture at all levels, provide readers with a broad, accurate, and knowledgeable view of skateboarding, and advance skateboard publishing through excellence in photography, writing, and design.
The difficulty comes not in loving the act of skateboarding enough, or even in getting better at the deed that has defined our existence (as well as the existence of millions of skate-focused fanatics universe wide). More exactly, the difficulty comes both from the want and need to do the best for our preferred distraction—to make skateboarding proud.
Pressure is a beautiful shaper of things, though, and in applying the heaviness of skateboarding’s past and present while leading it into the potential of our ultimately unheard of future, The Skateboard Mag aims to produce a truly independent voice for skateboarding the world over—portraying a characteristic knowledge, wisdom, and blind evolution that’s easy to adore, a privilege to be a part of, and impossible (let alone, difficult) for us to ever give up believing in.
And we don’t stop.

Much more than just an explosive, unpredictable skateboarder, Vallely is also a spoken word artist, vocalist, brutal brawler, and most recently- acclaimed television personality (Drive on FuelTV). Married fifteen years and a father of two daughters, Vallely's never slowed down. Imbued with a sense of limitless freedom and a love of responsibility, he attempts to live his life as a creative and energetic role model to thousands of skateboarders."

Lost began in 1985 when Matt Biolos and a bunch of school friends were into snowboarding at Mt. Baldy, skateboarding at the Pipeline in Upland, and surfing in Dana Point. They weren't too worried about winning this football game or that contest. They were "team lost". Thus the name ì...lostî scribbled on books, t-shirts, benches, tables and eventually clothing.

During the march dumps of 1991, Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall set off on a snowboard trip that would forever change their lives. Tucker had just been laid off of work and jumped in the car on a routine Tahoe trip to visit Nathan Fletcher and Mark Gabriel. After riding four days of fresh, Richard called work with the excuse that they were snowed in and extended his stay. For more than a week, they awoke every morning with two new feet of snow. It was their first real experience riding powder and the new obsession wouldn't stop.
